General relay day information 2009

The cost for participation is $225.00 per Team or $75.00 per division in lieu of fielding a full squad. Checks are due one week prior to the meet via the US Postal service. Placer Track and Field 275 Orange Street, Auburn, California 95603.

Welcome to the 71st annual running of the Le Febvre Relays. The Granddaddy of them all!!!  Welcome to Placer High School, home of the Hillmen, and the longest running track meet in California, the Le Febvre Relays. This great meet was originally started as the “Foothill” relays in 1939 by then coach Earl Crabbe. Coach Crabbe’s intentions have lived on in the spirit and intent of the relay meet, building interest in track and field in this region and putting together a meet that supported the concept of team in Track and Field.  In 1945 Ralph Le Febvre took the reigns as track coach here at Placer. Uncle Ralph, as his athletes knew him, was a 1923 graduate of Placer High and an employee for both Placer High and Placer College during his coaching career.  Coach Ralph won 17 SFL titles and just as many “Foothill” relay meets in the 19 years he devoted to the school. Coach Le Febvre’s love for track and field carried over to his athlete’s success. As years went by, the people of Auburn came to know of uncle Ralph and his dedication to the children and athletes in their community. In 1987, a year before his death, the stadium and this meet were named in his honor. The strong running traditions continue to live on, The Le Febvre relays and the Western States 100 mile run. Both are held on this historic track. Many great athletes have come through this stadium over the years and many will run here today. We at Placer High and the people in our supportive Auburn Community are very proud of these relays with the rich traditions and memories carried out every year. In the ongoing spirit of track and field which begun many years ago, we are proud to present this beautiful facility to the public. We sincerely hope that today will be memorable and that all of the participants enjoy the challenge of team track, a concept that only lively relays can foster. We encourage you the fans and participants, to support the competitors as they each give their best effort to perform in California’s “Granddaddy of them all” the historic Le Febvre relays. 8:00 am Track opens for “walk through”.  Snack bar opens. 
8:25 am Coaches meeting in front of snack bar by clerk.
8:40 am Volunteers/Timers meeting in front of snack bar.
8:50 am Track closes for “walk through”.
8:55 am Salute to the flag.
9:00 am Opening of field events.
4:00 pm Close of field events.

9:00 am Open two mile. scratch start.  3 heats. (3 man limit)
10:00am 4x65m shuttle hurdles 2 Standard heights. 18 heats.
11:00 am 4x100m relay. 2 turn stagger. 9 heats.
11:45 am Distance medley. scratch start (12,4,8,16). 3 heats.
12:45 pm Sprint medley. 2 turn stagger (1,1,2,4).  9 heats.
1:45 pm 4x800m relay. scratch start. 3 heats.
2:45 pm 4x200m relay. 3 turn stagger. 9 heats.
3:45 pm Presentation of  Bobby Osborne Spirit Award
4:00 pm 4x400m relay. 3 turn stagger. 9 heats

• Pick up medals in Press box following the meet.

• Scoring is 10-8-6-4-2-1 including the open 2 mile.

• Results will be e-mailed to dyestatcal.com, and also available at www.placertrack.org following the meet.

To ensure appropriate placement of the racers it is important for the final athlete to remain in his/her lane following the event, or maintain “chute” order when applicable. Anchor legs need to be wearing a hip number since we are now using automated timing.
